Blessed are those who mourn/Build Your Foundation on Christ

It’s a cold, October day. I’m sitting here, still in my PJs, kids are off to school, I am sipping my bone broth and happy hot chocolate, hubby is sleeping in after working on his paper until late, and the only sounds are the clicking of my keyboard and the diffuser I have going. Thought I’d take some time alone and read some Word and devotion. The crazy thing: my devotion this morning is about mourning. Not mourning death, but mourning anything pertaining to short comings/immaturity in your walk with Christ. And the one for tonight: praising God through the difficult times. I’m reading a daily short devotional by Charles H. Spurgeon. (Side bar: If you don’t know who he is, please look him up. He is one of the premier theologians in Christianity. He is amazing.)

Go read 1 Corinthian 3. I’ll wait…

OK, so now the verses I want to focus on.

10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” 1Cor3:10-15

Building on the foundation of Christ. We start as new Christians, then build on the foundation of Christ. Our lives, built on a foundation of Christ. Our legacy, built on a foundation…of Christ.

Such a somber day for our church. Last night a very special light went out in our church. A very special light in the world went out. I didn’t know Gail Hamilton, except in passing. I do, however, see the impact that she has made upon the world, through Gail’s Girls and her entire family. She lost her battle with cancer last night, but she won the race of life. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever shape thousands of people and give hope to so many. She built her life, her legacy, on the foundation of Christ. I have no doubt that through the fire her legacy will stand strong. So really, her light didn’t go out. She left it here, burning brightly in this dark world.

What an awesome woman, what an awesome life, what an awesome ministry. Her family is mourning. Her family is brokenhearted. But her daughter, Kristin, wrote this morning that she is rejoicing at the celebration that is going on in Heaven as her mother is now with her Savior and no longer suffering. Joy does come in the morning. Joy can also come in the MOURNING. Gail’s life, legacy, and suffering has become joy. #Blessed #BlessedAreThoseWhoMourn

As I conclude, please stop and say a prayer for the Hamilton family and for Gail’s legacy in Gail’s Girls. You can also read about Gail and her journey at http://www.lovegail.com/
